Early Rising

Early rising means the habit of getting up from bed early in the morning. This habit is very useful to a man in various ways. Regarding it there is an English proverb: “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.” Really this proverb is correct. An early riser finds enough time to take some exercise or a walk in the morning air. The morning air refreshes both his mind and body. This certainly improves his health and gives him energy for the day’s work. This habit also enables a man to begin his day’s work early. He gets plenty of time to perform his duties and hence he becomes wealthy. The habit gives him an opportunity to enjoy the beauties of nature. So, we should form the habit of early rising for the happiness and prosperity of our life.

A winter morning

A winter morning is misty and cold. There is dense fog everywhere. Sometimes the fog is so dense that the sun rays cannot get through it. Everything looks hazy. Things at distance can hardly be seen. The sun seems to rise late. Children and old people suffer from the pinching cold of the morning. Dew drops fall at night. When the morning sun peeps, they look like glittering pearls on grasses. Children and old people gather straw and make fires to warm themselves. The old people bask in the sun. Then people likes to eat Chira, Muri, Khai and various kinds of pithas. Winter morning gradually vanishes as the day advances. The sun goes up, fog melts away and people go to their respective duties.

A Rainy day

If it so happens that it rains all day long, we call it a rainy day. In such a day, the sky remains cloudy. The sun is not seen at all. The day looks dull and gloomy. Sometimes it rains heavily and sometimes it drizzles. Often there are flashes of lightning and roars of thunder in the sky. Birds are hardly seen to fly. They keep standing on the branches of trees. Cattle keep standing on their sheds. In such a day, people have to remain indoors. The roads become almost muddy and desolate. One cannot move from one place to another easily. One does not generally come out without compulsion. They cannot go out to earn their daily bread. It is a great joy to the students. Because, classes are not held that day. Some people then spend time in gossiping, playing at cards, singing or hearing songs. After all, a rainy day gives us both joy and sorrow. It comes to different classes of people in different ways. 

A village doctor

A village doctor is a familiar figure in the village. He is a private practitioner. Generally he may not be a registered doctor. He receives some training by working under a qualified doctor for some years. He has a dispensary in his house. He gets up early in the morning. He then attends his patients. He treats his patients very carefully. He gives them advice and medicine. After finishing his duty there, he goes out to see other patients in the villages. Sometimes he spends the whole night sitting beside a patient. His presence and affectionate touch fill the patients with hope and courage. But he takes small fees from the patients. Very often he gives free treatment to the poor. Really a village doctor is an important figure to the villagers. He is loved and respected by all. He is not only a doctor but also a friend to the villagers.

A Tea Stall

Tea is popular drink all over the world. So, a tea stall is a common place to all classes of people. In a tea-stall hot drink or tea is supplied. Biscuits, bread, bananas, betel leaf are also available here. It opens early in the morning and closes late at night. It is usually found at the turn of the road, in the train station or steamer ghat, near a factory or an office. It is not well-furnished. Even in some stalls there are no chairs but benches. A tea-stall has normally two parts. In the front part there are chairs, tables and show-cases. In the other part there is the kitchen. A boy is employed in a tea-stall. Sometimes, the owner himself serves as the boy and the cashier. Different kinds of people gather here. They refresh themselves with a cup of tea and discuss different topics. Sometimes they discuss politics in a tea-stall. Thus a tea-stall is a noisy and busy place. Really its utility cannot be ignored.

The life of a farmer

An ideal farmer is a very important person in our society. Generally, in our country, he lives in a village. His house is made of corrugated iron sheets or straws.  An ideal farmer lives a very simple life. He earns his livelihood the sweat of his brow. He works from morning till evening. He gets up very early in the morning and takes a little breakfast. He goes to his field with his wooden plough and a pair of bullocks. He cultivates and prepares his land with simple hand-made tools. Sometimes he is too busy that he cannot make time to go home for the noonday meal. He has both pleasures and pains in his life. He gets pleasures when he has a good harvest. But he gets pains when his crops are destroyed by droughts, floods or cyclones. Though a farmer works hard he does not get enough to eat. He lives from hand to mouth. He also suffers from many diseases. An ideal farmer is an asset to the country. He contributes a lot to the economy of the country. So, all of us should respect him.
